History

Believing in God’s Word and Spirit

The Church of the Nazarene was founded in 1908. Its organization was a marriage that, like every marriage, linked existing families and created a new one. Utilizing evangelism, compassionate ministries, and education, their church went forth to become a people of many cultures and tongues. Nazarenes share a unity in holiness with a mission to the world. Today, the Nazarene church is a global network of churches and educational institutions. Nazarenes support 14 liberal arts institutions in Africa, Brazil, Canada, Caribbean, Korea, and the United States, as well as five graduate seminaries, 31 undergraduate Bible/theological colleges, 2 nurses training colleges, and one education college worldwide.
Penny Road Church of the Nazarene was founded in 1986 by a diverse group of Christians from the North Raleigh Church of the Nazarene. The church met for a number of years in borrowed facilities until establishing its permanent location on Penny Road. Over the years, PRCN has focused on Jesus Christ and family with a strong commitment to involvement and support of missions both locally and world-wide. We are an active congregation of diverse ages and backgrounds drawn together by a commitment to the teachings of Jesus Christ and a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of others. We strongly believe that our faith is the heart of who we are, what we do, and how we work.
